Vlada Tomova is a Bulgarian-born vocalist, arranger and composer, who weaves Balkan and world sensibilities into her own contemporary sound. Having made New York her second home, Vlada leads an innovative world music group, with its current project Balkan Tales, as well as New York’s Bulgarian Women’s Choir, Yasna Voices, which she founded in March 2003. Vlada enjoys collaborating on interdisciplinary projects and is a sought after guest vocalist. Her recent work with the Balkan Beat Box has received international acclaim and the group’s debut album has reached top positions in the world music charts.
In addition, Vlada appears on film soundtracks and sound installations. Hers is the voice featured on National Geographic’s touring exhibit King Tut. Her vocal work was heard during the Winter Olympics 2006 in a 3-D Sound Cube, placed in the heart of a village near Torino, Italy. Vlada has also written music for short films, and for Nickelodeon’s popular kids show Dora the Explorer.
Vlada has performed at some of New York’s best venues, such as Symphony Space, Joe’s Pub, The Public Theatre, Irving Plaza, BAM Café, Satalla, S.O.B.’s and Galapagos Art Space. Vlada's song «Meboli» was Time Out NY's «MP3 of the Week» in March, 2005. She has toured in North and South America and throughout Europe.
Vlada is a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, Magna Cum Laude. She has presented clinics on Balkan singing and world music appreciation at Columbia University, and Berklee College of Music.
