12th World Folkdance Festival - Palma de Mallorca
12 January 2007 - Palma de Mallorca, Spain
Once again, the City of Palma de Mallorca will open its doors to a multitude of folkdance enthusiasts for the XII edition of the World Folkdance Festival.
We will celebrate our 20 years anniversary at this next edition which will take place during the dates 10 - 14 April 2007 and as in the previous editions since 1985, the World Folkdance Festival will be the centre of a concentration of folkdance groups from the five continents.
While the world is becoming smaller in many ways with easier transportation and communication, there is a growing need to preserve the cultures and heritages of individual countries.
One of the main conduits of tradition is through dance and music and an event such as the World Folkdance Festival provides a bridge for groups to intermingle and share their cultures with each other.
The central focus of the Festival is the International Competition which inspires groups to perform to the maximum level of excellence with the emphasis on their authentic traditions which are protected and preserved in their respective countries and it is a source of optimism to see so many children's groups participate. This way, we can be sure that the traditions will be maintained for future generations.
You will find all the necessary information in this web page www.worldfolkdance.com and you can also print the application forms which should be sent to the International Secretariat with the requested information.
We are looking forward to being in contact with you and Palma de Mallorca is waiting with great expectation to welcome you to join us for the 12th edition of the World Folkdance Festival in April 2007 and to celebrate together 20 years of this wonderful event.
Tomeu Bosch Director International Secretariat
