16th festival Pirin Folk 2008

The 16th festival for Macedonian folklore based songs Pirin Folk 2008 has come to an end. The three festival days on 5, 6 and 7 September were launched on TV in live on MSAT, Planeta, Fan TV, Planeta folk, Folklore TV and the gala evening on Bulgaria’s satellite channel TV Bulgaria.
The singers that took part this year: Lili Tsvetkova, Slavena, Katya Spassovska, Deniya Pencheva, Karamfil Bozhikov, Tsonka Manolova, Anna-Maria, Rossitza Peicheva, Zdravko Mandadzhiev, Ivelina Ivanova, Yuri Krumov, Yanko Nedelchev, Hristo Kosashki, The Filatovs sisters, Stoyka Germanova and Ivan Tsonkov, Rumina, Gotse Arnaudov, Blagoi Gruyovski, Ivena, Sofia Ilieva, Pepa, Iva Davidova, Rumyana Mihaleva, Todor Kozhuharov, Mariana Todorova, Gergana Markova Dimova, Julieta Ivanova, Zoran Nastov.
Three dance ensembles – Chinari, Ethnorhythm and Zornitsa – took part in the spectacles, the director of the festival Stefan Milov announced.
The stage was representing the popular architectural monument ‘The devil’s bridge’. Two of last years’ winners – Petko Zahariev and Ivan Dyakov sang on 5 September accompanied by the outstanding dancers of the Zornitsa ensemble. Blazing passions and sincere tenderness filled the air during the two performances. The choreographer Emil Genov again has successfully intertwined tradition with modern elements. Two gorgeous wildly applauded performings, this is the outcome of the original debut of Zornitsa ensemble from Sofia.
Out of the competition the singers Reni, Tsvetelina, Extra Nina, Nelina and Veronika sang. On 7 September 2008 at Pirin Folk’s presscentre in Interhotel Sandanski the awards were announced as per the festival’s regulations:

New author’s Macedonian song award 1. Rossitsa Peicheva - 183 points 2. Zdravko Mandadzhiev - 173 points 3. Ivelina Ivanova and Tsonka Manolova – 168 points
Audience’s award for song - Rumina Audience’s award for a performer – Mariyana Todorova
The Municipality of Sandanski’s award - Gotse Arnaudov
Ministry of Culture’s award for author’s song – Denya Pencheva Ministry of Culture’s award for a performer – Iva Davidova Debut award – Katya Spassovska
Special award for the contribution to the development of the Pirin folk festival and the Bulgarian dance art – Chinari ensemble.
