The Northern ensemble for folklore songs and dances from the town of Pleven was founded in 1959. Since its foundation the ensemble has had more than 5000 concerts for more than 2,500,000 spectators in Bulgaria and abroad. The ensemble consists of 60 singers musicians and dancers.
Dzheylyan Demirev is the artistic director and choreographer of the group, Mariyan Tudzharov is the conductor of the orchestra and Anelia Makaveeva is the conductor of the choir.
