Folklore Concert on the Occasion of Prof. Thomothy Rice's Awarding
In the occasion of awarding Professor Timothy Rice, Director of the “Herb Alpert School of Music” at the University of California, Los Angeles with the Order of “Sv. Sv. Kiril I Metodii” second class from The President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Georgi Parvanov, for his significant contribution to the scientific study of Bulgarian musical folklore and for the popularization of Bulgarian culture in the United States of America
AND
Celebrating the 50th Anniversary and 30 year professional artistic career of Ivan Varimezov, musician-bagpiper, solist at the Orchestra for Bulgarian Folklore Music at the Bulgarian National Radio, conductor of Ensemble “Pazardzhik”, and currently, Adjunct Professor of Bulgarian Folklore Music at the Department of Ethnomusicology at the University of California, Los Angeles,
We are pleased to invite you to join us in celebrating these two occasions marked by a formal concert on June 27, 2008 from 7:00 pm in Concert Hall #11 at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The Concert will feature performances by:
- The “Balkan Ensemble” from the University of California, Los Angeles – Directors Tzvetanka and Ivan Varimezovi
- Folk Ensmeble “Pazardzik” – Director Atanas Cholakov
- Orchestra “Sredetz” and “Male Folkloric Group” – from the town of Sredetz – Directors Tzviatko Zhekov and Ivan Chervenkov
- The Folk Orchestra of The Bulgarian National Radio – Director Hristofor Radanov
