For the first time the Workshop for Balkan folklore, Balkanfolk, will be held in the resort town of Varshets, at Promishleno Stroitelstvo Vacation Centre - Bulgaria.

The town of Varshets is situated at the foot of Todorini kukli peak, on the north slopes of Stara planina mountain, in the vast valley of the Botunya river. It is 85 km north from Sofia and it is populated by 7,500 people. Varshets is a resort, famous for its mineral water springs and mild climate, contributing to the favorable conditions for balneo treatment. Varshets was founded amongst mineral springs and its history is connected to balneo treatment. The Thracian boy-god Telesphorus, whose bronze sculpture form 2nd century AD was found there, is a symbol of the town. The town originates from the ancient times when it was called Medeca (medicus – curative). It was proclaimed for a national resort in 1950 and for a town in 1964. The oldest document that was found, which speaks for the existence of the town, is from 6th century in a piece of Byzantine chronicles. The mineral sources in Varshets had been used during the Roman period, which was proved by the remainings of Roman fortresses, Roman coins and small ceramic tiles. For 150 years the conditions in Varshets benefit to the treatment of heart and neurological diseases. The mineral water’s characteristics are close to some springs in Argentine, Ecuador and India. The town is situated in vast forests, the air is pure, hardly humid and has a calming effect.

The participants in Balkanfolk 2008 seminar will be accommodated in “Promishleno Stroitelstvo” vacation centre in the town of Varshets. The building is close to the centre of the town, the mineral waters beach and the beautiful park.
“Promishleno Stroitelstvo” has got double rooms with large balconies and a beautiful view. The restaurant offers traditional Bulgarian cuisine and excellent conditions for the folklore nights with the orchestra, the singers and the participants in Balkanfolk seminar.

The courses will be held in the “Children’s Hallroom”, at 200 metres from the hotel. The hall is vast and the floor is wooden, which is suitable for dance lessons.
