XXXI International Festival of Masquerade Games "Surva" 2025 will be held from January 24 to 26 in Pernik. The largest winter festival in Europe will once again include a rich program, three-day parades of survakars, kukers, babugers and jamalari groups from Bulgaria, as well as visiting groups from abroad. The official opening will take place on the "Krakra" square on the evening of January 24.

May 24 is the Day Of Slavonic Alphabet, Bulgarian Enlightenment and Culture. This day has been celebrated for 173 years now – no other holiday was so long celebrated in Bulgarian late history.


On May 11 1851 a celebration was organized by Nayden Gerov at the eparchy school `St St Kiril and Methody` in the town of Plovdiv. This was the first time to be marked the Day of the Saint brothers Kiril and Methody – the creators of Slavonic Alphabet.

All over the world peolpe meet spring with joy and new hope but it is only in Bulgaria where it is saved as an ancient custom.


If you are walking along the streets in Bulgaria on the 1st of March you will witness many smiling faces. But first of all your eyes will be captured by martenitsas. Everyone has decorated their clothes with them. Moreover, you can see decorated dogs and cats. In the small villages in the mountains people decorate their domestic animals: lambs, kids, young horses. Houses have their own martenitsa, as well.

Yesterday, in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture, Ensemble "Folklorica" presented its jubilee concert-performance "STAY".

The guest performers were the "Vanya Moneva" Women's Choir, the Folklore Orchestra conducted by Dimitar Hristov and the "Filip Kutev" State Folklore Ensemble.
